Daphne Benford-Smith
Associate Attorney

From the moment that she was licensed as an attorney, Daphne Benford-Smith has enjoyed thorough experience as a family attorney from complex property litigation cases to contentious custody disputes. Her personal touch and ability to connect with clients through the emotional difficulties that may come with family law cases while teaching clients the family code and policies in a way that they understand, has resulted in her being awarded prestigious awards such as a Top Family Law Attorney in 2020 by Houstonia Magazine as well as membership in the prestigious family law honor society the Burta Rhoads Raborn Family Law Inns of Court.

Daphne prides herself in being able to understand the effect that family law cases have on clients from an emotional and financial standpoint. Being a child whose parents underwent a divorce while she was growing up, Daphne also offers the unique perspective of how divorces can affect children and parties alike. With this in mind, Daphne strives to make sure clients are prepared whether the case goes to trial or settles outside of court while keeping their interests as well as the child’s interests in mind. Daphne prides herself in doing what she can to reach a beneficial outcome for her clients while keeping their stress levels as low as possible.

Daphne’s focus includes divorce, custody disputes, child support, modifications, enforcements, stepparent adoptions, terminations, characterization of property, division of property, temporary restraining orders, mediations, and protective orders.

Prior to joining Youngberg, Daphne worked for three years as a family law attorney in Harris and surrounding counties where she was afforded extensive experience trying complex family law cases from start to finish.

Daphne obtained her Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas. Prior to completing her degree, she had the distinct honor of clerking for Judge Elaine Hubbard Palmer of the 215th District Court in Houston, Texas, and being Vice President/Executive Editor of the Law Journal.
